BeMadeKnown (“we”, “us”) is a tool for stitching a series of video clips into one long-form video, and a public directory of creators and their videos. This page explains what data we handle and why. If anything here is unclear, contact us at[email protected].
Your video files
Clips you add — whether picked from your camera roll or imported from a connected account — are decoded and re-encoded entirely on-device in the app. They are never uploaded to our servers. Your in-progress project (clip order, series settings, and the video data itself) is saved locally on your device so it survives closing the app, and stays there until you clear the project or delete the app.
The one exception is importing from Instagram: our server briefly streams the requested reel’s bytes through to the app on your device. It resolves the media by its Instagram media ID, does not write the video to disk or a database, and doesn’t log its contents.
TikTok works differently. BeMadeKnown never downloads or imports videos from TikTok. When you connect TikTok, the app shows you a list of your own public TikTok posts so you can choose which ones belong in a series. You then save those videos to your camera roll yourself, from the TikTok app, and add them from there like any other clip.
Connected accounts (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok)
Connecting an account starts that platform’s own OAuth login. We never see or store your password. What we do store is the minimum needed to keep the connection working — kept securely in your device’s Keychain, not in a database:
- Instagram— your long-lived access token, app-scoped user id, and username, for listing and importing your own reels.
- YouTube— your Google refresh token and channel id/title, used to mint short-lived upload tokens on demand when you publish.
- TikTok— your refresh token, open id, and display name, used to show which TikTok account is connected and to list your own videos.
For TikTok we request only two read-only permissions: user.info.basic(your open id, display name, and avatar, so the app can show which account is connected) and video.list (your own public videos, so you can browse them). For each video the app receives its title, description, duration, cover image, link, and posting date. This list is fetched from TikTok each time you open it and is not stored on our servers. BeMadeKnown cannot post to TikTok and never does.
That credential is a signed, server-issued token: our server signs it with a server-side secret so it can’t be tampered with, and it’s sent back to us only to keep the connection working. These credentials are not written to a database — your device’s Keychain is the only copy we hold, and it expires automatically (Instagram after roughly 60 days, TikTok after roughly 365 days, YouTube per Google’s refresh-token policy) or immediately when you disconnect the account.
We only request the minimum permissions needed for the feature you use — reading your own media to import it, or publishing a video you explicitly chose to upload. We never post, delete, or modify anything on your connected accounts without you initiating that action in the app.
The creator directory (bemadeknown.com)
If you choose to add a video to the directory, we publish it publicly. That includes your YouTube channel name, handle and profile photo, the video’s title, category, thumbnail and duration, and any bio or links you add to your creator page. We check with YouTube, using your own sign-in, that you own the video and to read this information. Videos play from YouTube through its privacy-enhanced embed, and nothing loads from YouTube until a visitor presses play. Directory search uses only the words typed — it does not use anyone’s viewing history or profile. You can remove a video, or your whole listing, at any time from the app or by emailing[email protected].
What we don’t do
The bemadeknown.com website uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used; the app does not include analytics or advertising trackers. We don’t sell your data, we don’t build advertising profiles, and we don’t share it with third parties other than the service providers that run the site and directory. We don’t use information from your connected Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok accounts for sales, advertising, or marketing outside BeMadeKnown’s own services. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested path) for security and debugging, kept only as long as needed for that purpose.
Third-party platforms
Your use of Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok through BeMadeKnown is also governed by that platform’s own privacy policy and terms — Meta’s, Google’s, and TikTok’s respectively. We don’t control how those platforms handle data on their end.
Deleting your data
To remove a connected account, disconnect it from within the app — that immediately deletes the stored session from your device’s Keychain. You can also remove BeMadeKnown from the connected-apps settings of Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok, which cuts off our access right away; the app will then ask you to reconnect. To remove a video or your creator page from the directory, use “Remove from directory” in the app. To remove your local project data, use “Clear all” in the app, or delete the app entirely.
Children
BeMadeKnown is not directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under the minimum age required to hold an account on the platforms we connect to.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we’ll update the date at the top of this page.
