How our search works

What we use

• The words in the video.We match your search against each video’s title, tags and description. A match in the title counts most, then tags, then the description.
• The category.If your search names a category, like “cooking”, videos in that category get a boost.
• A small boost for new videos,so new creators aren’t buried under older ones. It fades over a few weeks.

What we never use

• Your watch history, likes, or anything else about what you’ve done here.
• View counts, likes, or other popularity numbers.
• Payment. Nobody can pay to rank higher in search.

In the future some category pages may carry a clearly labelled sponsor. Sponsors never change the order of results.

The Safe for Kids filter

Turning it on shows only videos that their creator marked as “Made for Kids” on YouTube.

What gets listed

Creators choose to list their videos from the BeMadeKnown app, and can remove them at any time. We review each new creator’s first video before it appears. Only videos that are public on YouTube are shown.

Watching videos

Videos play from YouTube, so views count for the creator. When a video ends, YouTube only suggests more videos from the same creator’s channel.
